InfoVis Talk at March ColdFusion Meeting

This March 10th I will be presenting “InfoVis and ColdFusion: Creating Sexy Data that Businesses Lust For” to the Salt Lake ColdFusion User’s group. It should be a lot of fun, intellectually appealing, and serve as a great introduction to information visualization for developers.

From the official announcement:

“ColdFusion remains the most developer friendly way to create scalable, data-driven applications. But after you’ve retrieved those complex queries how do you make them beautiful? What business indicators should be emphasized? Where is the line between revelatory and rubbish design?

“In this hour long intellectual assault ColdFusion veteran Matthew Reinbold will discuss basic information visualization (InfoVis) techniques, demonstrate their implementation in sample applications, and unabashedly prove that pie charts are evil. You will leave better equipped to leverage ColdFusion to create powerful visualizations of client data and leave your customers’ pining for more.

“Under 17 requires accompanying parent or guardian as this presentation is rated R for robustness ( also, sometimes Matt uses the word ‘sexy’ ).”

Things get underway at 4:30pm. The Salt Lake ColdFusion User’s Group meets at:
MasterControl, Inc.
6322 S 3000 E Suite 110
Salt Lake City, UT 84121

For more information pop over to the SLCFUG web page. Be forewarned – this talk may be accompanied by Barry White. If you can’t wait until next month for some good infovis make sure to check out fellow Utahan Matthias Shapiro and his Ignite Salt Lake talk.
